Hydronephrosis

Hydronephrosis is a condition characterized by the swelling or enlargement of one or both kidneys due to the build-up of urine. This occurs when urine flow is obstructed, causing urine to back up and accumulate in the kidneys. Kidney Stones: Blockage of the urinary tract by kidney stones.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Inflammation or infection causing narrowing or blockage of the urinary tract.
Pregnancy: Enlarging uterus can compress the ureters, leading to urine flow obstruction.
Congenital Anomalies: Birth defects affecting the structure of the urinary tract.
Tumors: Growths in or near the urinary tract that obstruct urine flow.
Prostate Enlargement: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men can obstruct urine flow from the bladder.

Symptoms of Hydronephrosis: The symptoms of hydronephrosis depend on the underlying cause and the severity of the condition:

Pain: Dull, aching pain in the back or flank area, where the kidneys are located.
Urinary Symptoms: Increased urgency, frequency, or difficulty urinating.
Nausea and Vomiting: Especially if hydronephrosis is accompanied by severe pain.
Fever: If hydronephrosis is due to a urinary tract infection.
Visible Abdominal Swelling: In severe cases where the kidneys are significantly enlarged.
